Hurt at work? At Quantum Physical Therapy & Chiropractic Care we treat work injuries, from back and neck strain to repetitive stress in the wrist and hand, with physical therapy and chiropractic care. We bill the workers’ compensation carrier directly, and new patients are usually seen the same day.
If the injury is serious, such as a fall from a height, a head injury, severe pain, or numbness or weakness, get emergency care first: in an emergency, any health care provider can treat you. If you were driving for work when a crash happened, your care is usually a workers’ compensation case too, not a No-Fault one.
What to do after a work injury in New York
- Tell your employer in writing, within 30 days. Do it as soon as you can: a late notice can put your benefits at risk.
- See a provider authorized by the Workers’ Compensation Board. Chiropractors and physical therapists can be authorized. When you call or come in, tell us it is a work injury, so your care is billed to the carrier.
- File your claim with the Board within two years, on Form C-3.
- Don’t pay for your treatment or put it on your own health insurance. In an established claim, the carrier pays your providers.
- Keep your claim number and every letter from the Board or the carrier in one place.
The Board walks through each step in its Injured Worker’s Toolkit.
Work injuries we treat
- Back pain and strains from lifting, carrying or a fall on the job
- Neck pain and shoulder strain from overhead work or long hours at a desk
- Carpal tunnel and other repetitive strain in the wrist and hand
- Herniated discs and pinched nerves
- Sprains, joint injuries and rehabilitation after a fracture
Physical therapy and chiropractic care for work injuries
Your care begins with an evaluation, and the plan is built with your job in mind: the lifting, standing, reaching or typing it asks of you. Physical therapy rebuilds the strength and movement you need to get back to work, and chiropractic care works on the spine and joints. The same provider follows you from the first visit to the last.
If pain lingers, or tingling and weakness need a closer look, pain management and nerve testing (EMG/NCS) are available through specialists who visit our locations.
How workers’ compensation pays for your care
Workers’ compensation is insurance your employer carries for injuries and illnesses caused by work. In New York it covers two things:
- Your medical care: the carrier pays the Board-authorized providers who treat you. You don’t pay them, and you don’t use your own health insurance for the injury.
- Part of your lost wages: if you miss more than seven days of work, two-thirds of your average weekly wage times your percentage of disability, up to a weekly maximum the state updates every July 1.
The Board explains both in how the claims process works.
