Neck pain often comes from strained muscles, from hours at a computer or looking down at a phone, from joints that wear with age, or from an injury. Quantum’s chiropractors and physical therapists treat it in the same location, and new patients are usually seen the same day.
Neck pain symptoms
- Pain that gets worse when you hold your head in one position, such as driving or working at a computer
- Tight muscles and spasms in the neck and shoulders
- Trouble turning or tilting your head
- Headaches that start in the neck
When neck pain needs urgent care
Get emergency care for severe neck pain after an injury, such as a car accident, a diving accident or a fall. Book an evaluation if the pain is intense, doesn’t get better after a few days, spreads into your arms or legs, or comes with a headache, numbness, tingling or weakness.
Where neck pain comes from
- Muscle strain from posture: a desk, a phone, or reading in bed
- Wear in the joints of the neck
- A pinched nerve from a bulging disc or a bone spur, which sends pain down an arm
- Whiplash and other injuries from a car crash
What to expect at your evaluation
Your provider looks at how you sit and hold your head, measures how far you can turn and tilt it, feels for tight and tender muscles, and checks the strength and feeling in your arms. Expect questions about your workstation and your phone, too: the fix often starts there.
How we treat neck pain
Chiropractic care restores motion in the neck and upper back, physical therapy strengthens the muscles that hold your head and corrects the posture that strains them, and acupuncture can ease tight, sore muscles. Read when to see a physical therapist for neck pain.
Covering your neck pain care
Neck pain after a car accident is usually a No-Fault case, and neck pain from your work, a workers’ compensation case. For everyday neck pain, we accept health insurance depending on your case, and self-pay.
